How to Make Bolognese Sauce
- In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.
- Add the finely chopped onion. Sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic, finely diced carrots, and celery. Cook for another 5 minutes.
- Increase the heat to medium-high and add 1 lb of ground beef. Cook until completely browned, stirring occasionally, about 8-10 minutes.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and beef broth. Sprinkle in the dried oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer over medium-high heat. Once bubbling, reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot partially and let it simmer for at least 1 hour.
- Occasionally taste the sauce and adjust the seasonings to your liking.
- While the sauce simmers, cook your pasta of choice according to package instructions until al dente.
- Finish by garnishing with fresh parsley and a generous sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese.
