Cooking Instructions
  1. Gather your ingredients for the split pea and ham soup.
  2. In a large pot over medium heat, add a splash of olive oil. Toss in the diced onions and sauté until they turn translucent and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the diced carrots and celery to the pot. Stir everything together for another 3–4 minutes.
  4. Pour in the rinsed split peas along with the vegetable broth. Bring this mixture to a gentle boil.
  5. Reduce heat to low and cover the pot. Let everything simmer for about 45 minutes to an hour, or until the peas are tender.
  6. If you prefer a smoother texture, use an immersion blender to blend part of the soup right in the pot.
