  • 4 medium Yellow Onions Sweet and tender, choose firm ones without blemishes.
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil Good quality extra virgin olive oil.
  • 3-4 cloves Garlic Minced finely.
  • 1 cup Cheese (Gruyère or Cheddar) Use your favorite melting cheese.
  • 1 cup Bread Crumbs Toasted, can use store-bought or homemade.
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh Thyme Or dried if fresh isn’t available.
  • to taste Salt and Pepper Essential for seasoning.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Peel and slice the onions thinly.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until they soften and turn golden brown, stirring occasionally.
  3. Toss in minced garlic along with salt and pepper. Cook until fragrant—about one minute.
  4. In a large bowl, mix sautéed onions with shredded cheese and fresh thyme. Stir well.
  5. Pour the onion mixture into a greased baking dish. Evenly sprinkle toasted bread crumbs on top.
  6. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown.
