Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk and honey (if using).
- Mix until a soft dough forms, being careful not to overmix.
Shaping and Baking
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and shape it into a round loaf.
- Place the loaf on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Using a sharp knife, cut a deep cross on top of the loaf.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
