Ingredients

For the Chili
  • 1 lb lean ground beef a great choice for rich flavor without excessive fat content
  • 1 medium onion, chopped enhances aroma and adds depth of flavor
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced infuses the chili with a fragrant kick
  • 2 14.5 oz cans diced tomatoes provides a juicy base that ties all flavors together
  • 1 15 oz can kidney beans, drained adds a hearty texture and boosts protein
  • 1 15 oz can black beans, drained for added creaminess and fiber
  • 2 tbsp chili powder packs your dish with a robust, spicy flavor
  • 1 tsp cumin adds a warm, earthy note that complements the spices
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth keeps your chili saucy without overwhelming the flavors

Equipment

  • large pot

Method

How to Make Easy Classic Beef Chili
  1. In a large pot over medium heat, add a splash of oil and sauté the chopped onion until it turns translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Then, add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  2. Add the ground beef to the pot, breaking it apart with a spoon or spatula as it cooks. Continue cooking until the meat is browned and no longer pink, approximately 5-7 minutes.
  3. Stir in the chili powder and cumin, ensuring every bit of meat is well-coated with the spices.
  4. Pour in the diced tomatoes along with their juices, and mix in the drained kidney and black beans. Stir everything together until it’s well combined.
  5. Pour in the beef broth and bring everything to a gentle boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 20-30 minutes.
  6. Serve hot in bowls, and feel free to top with cheese or sour cream for an extra touch of goodness!
