Description
A decadent breakfast casserole combining classic French toast with the caramelized sugar top of crème brûlée, prepared the night before for easy morning baking.
Ingredients

- 1 loaf brioche bread, cut into 1-inch slices
- 6 large eggs
- 3 cups half-and-half
- 1 cup brown sugar, divided
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
Instructions
- Grease 9×13 baking dish. Arrange bread slices in overlapping rows.
- Whisk eggs, half-and-half, 1/2 cup brown sugar, vanilla, and salt. Pour over bread.
- Cover and refrigerate overnight.
- Next morning: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Pour melted butter evenly over top; sprinkle remaining brown sugar.
- Bake uncovered 45 minutes until golden and set.
Notes
- Best served warm within 15 minutes of baking
- Can be prepared up to 24 hours in advance
- Brioche can be substituted with challah bread
