Description
A comforting casserole that combines tender sliced potatoes with the rich flavors of French onion soup, topped with melted cheese and crispy fried onions. Perfect for family dinners or potlucks.

- 6 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cans French onion soup
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 cups shredded Gruyere cheese
- 1 cup crispy fried onions
- 2 tablespoons fresh thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Layer half the sliced potatoes in the dish, season with salt and pepper. Pour one can of soup and half the cream over potatoes.
- Add remaining potatoes, soup, and cream. Top with Gruyere cheese and thyme.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil, add crispy onions, and bake uncovered for 15 minutes until golden.
Notes
- Slice potatoes uniformly (about 1/8 inch thick) for even cooking
- Can substitute Gruyere with Swiss cheese
- Make ahead: Assemble up to 24 hours in advance, refrigerate, then bake
