Description
Transform sweet Hawaiian rolls into a tropical twist on classic French toast. This delightful breakfast features pillowy-soft rolls soaked in a vanilla-kissed custard and grilled to golden perfection.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package (12 rolls) Hawaiian sweet rolls
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- Butter for cooking
- Maple syrup and fresh fruits for serving
Instructions
- Slice Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally. In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon.
- Dip each roll piece in the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for about 10 seconds per side.
- Heat butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the soaked rolls for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
Notes
- Don’t soak the rolls too long as they’re softer than regular bread and can become too soggy
- Keep finished pieces warm in a 200°F oven while cooking remaining batches
- For extra indulgence, serve with coconut syrup instead of maple syrup
